Groups & Courses

These leaflets provide more information about our homeless prevention service:
At CarmDAS we provide a range of group programmes for people to learn about the dynamics of abuse and recognise harmful and abusive behaviours. All of our programmes are delivered both face to face and online and focus on education, empowerment and healthy coping strategies, helping people to recover from their experiences.
Group Delivery
Own My Life
'Own My Life' is a weekly programme that helps women who have been subjected to domestic abuse regain ownership of their lives. Topics include owning our mind, body, choices, relationships, world and feelings. We believe that by giving individuals the skills to be able to understand the abuse , they can make better sense of their experiences and move forward with resilience, hope and positivity. To attend this course, women must have separated from the individual who hurt them and be living separately from this person too.
The Voice
'The Voice' is a domestic abuse programme delivered within a therapeutic framework. It's for any victim or survivor of domestic abuse and is delivered using a combination of discussion, exercises and self reflection. It helps individuals to understand the broad spectrum of abusive behaviours and the impact of trauma. It provides a supportive place for people to talk about and understand their experiences better and learn healthy coping strategies.
Survivors of Domestic Abuse Peer Support Group
Alongside our courses and programmes, we provide social and emotional opportunities for women from all backgrounds who are recovering from domestic abuse, to come together and build on their skills, hobbies and interests. These women with lived experience also help us to raise awareness of the vital work we do to end violence against women and girls in our community.
The feedback we receive from these members is hugely positive, with 100% of people who recently attended a group workshop saying "the group connected them to their community and helped them to reduce social isolation".
Some recent activities have included:
-
Coffee meet ups
-
Art for wellbeing sessions
-
Yoga and meditation
-
Slow cooker workshop
-
Budgeting workshop
-
Beach clean & litter picks
-
Flexible volunteering tasks such as helping CarmDAS to promote the White Ribbon Campaign
