As a charity we are dependent on the talent, skill and enthusiasm of our volunteers without whom we could not run all the services we provide.

Choosing to volunteer

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it gives them the opportunity to give something back to the community or make a difference to those around them. To others it is a chance to develop new skills or build on existing experience or knowledge. Regardless of what motivates our volunteers what unites them is their passion to support the work we do and in return we offer an experience that is both challenging and rewarding.

In return we will;

  • Provide you with a comprehensive training
  • Individual one to one support
  • Development opportunities within your volunteer role
  • Volunteer expenses
  • A flexible, friendly and supportive working environment

You do not need any qualifications to volunteer with us as we value the life experience and the transferable skills that each person brings. So whether you are a student, unemployed, working, a career or parent we would love to work with you.We need volunteers who are:

  • Committed to our ethos
  • Flexible in their approach and attitude
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Willing to obtain a Disclosures and Barring Services check (a conviction may not prevent volunteering)
  • Able to offer a minimum of 4 hours at a time.

Your volunteering experience

“My colleagues are so supportive and make me feel that I’m a valuable member of the team.”

At CarmDAS we appreciate and value our volunteers and recognise the valuable contribution they make to our services. No two volunteering experiences are the same. We structure your individual experience around you, the time you can give and what you want to achieve or experience. We do however provide every volunteer with an outstanding training programme and a “volunteering buddy”. There are a range of roles available:

  • Refuge based support work
  • Community based support work
  • Supporting children
  • Administration/office work
  • Receptionist
  • Fundraising
  • Training and education
  • Publicity/marketing
  • Housekeeper
  • Trustee

How to join the team

We recruit volunteers all year round and provide induction training regularly. We ask all of our volunteers to fill in a brief application form so we can learn more about you. Once we have received your we will invite you in for an informal meeting. The aim of the meeting will be for you to get an opportunity to meet some of the team and discuss what you would like learn and experience during your time with us. As the work we do involves working closely with women and children all of our team including volunteers undertake a criminal records check which we will arrange and pay for.

We also offer student placement programmes to those undertaking a social worker degree. Please contact us on 01267 238410 Option 4 for further details
